I remember visiting City Life, Milano very fondly. On the last day of our trip to Italy we had intended to round off our trip with a visit to Doumo Di Milano, La Sacla and the surrounding sites before taking the return flight later that evening.
And as per plan we met up with our tour guide and walked around the sites experiencing the history and heritage of the bustling city of Milan. As our walking tour came to an end, our guide Ms. Renata, whose late husband was an Architect advised we meander through City Life on our way back.
After three weeks of walking through various cities of Europe we had little oomph left to expend but couldn’t miss out on the recommendation. A short drive and we seemed to have traveled in time to the future, from the historic Milano to the modern. In front of us was a modern interpretation of a piazza by One Works, Skyscrapers by Zaha Hadid (the twisted one-Generali), Arata Isozaki (Allianz tower), and vast lawns of green leading to the housing complex by Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind. What then to our tired eyes and minds was a realization that all this in front were realizations of renderings from a computer and so accurate and purposeful.
And no Architecture is complete without its purpose and people and in City Life, there was the zest of life at every corner from children in cafes to families in parks to mesmerized tourists in us. An all-inclusive Architectural canvas.

As unfortunate news keeps coming from Italy over the last few weeks, I can only hope somewhere Ms. Renata is coping with the adversity.
